In the year 2010, Cornerstone witnessed the gradual expansion of its Music ministry. Whereas in previous years, when we speak of this ministry we refer only to the choir that sings 52 Sundays in a year, in 2010 the church’s first youth choir was born. The idea of the youth choir was first conceived in the first quarter of last year by the then newly appointed choir leader, Ruth Raquintan. She believed that the CBC youth could produce better choir members, if taught properly and practiced regularly. At the same time she saw it as an avenue where the young people’s energies could be channelled and their spiritual gifts fully developed. Today, the youth choir sings every third Sunday during the vesper service and every fourth Sunday at the morning service. They also sing at regular church conferences and special events. Another growth area of the Music Ministry is the addition of a piano accompanist and the formation of its strings ensemble. Ruth’s piano student, Josiah, now acts as the regular Wednesday prayer meeting pianist. Two junior students and two youth members have formed a strings quarter, accompanying our pianists during services. Lord willing, more members will be interested to study not only voice, piano, violin and viola but also other musical instruments to further upgrade the quality of music in our church. |
